The PAMAN system

  • Monitoring

PAMAN Monitors check that patients are taking their medication at the correct time, with the correct dose, at the correct location on the body.

  • Recording

The Monitors record the administration of the medicine – time, day, date and location on the body. They also record patient feedback.

  • Advising and Support

The Monitors will offer advise when asked or when appropriate to open a dialogue. All advice ‘sessions’ content and duration are recorded.

  • Feedback

The Monitors will either respond to the patient initiating discussion on medication side-effects, or will, on the pharma company request, ask the patient for feedback on any side-effects of the medication.

  • Managing Issues

Troubleshooting medication issues as they arise is key to ensuring the service level is maintained at the highest possible level.

  • Recording KPI Data

The measurement of key performance activity is important in being able to quantify service outcomes.

  • Patient Monitoring Progress

Being able to review and comment on patient progress is based on observational recording of activity.

  • Completing Patient Report

The report prepared for each patient provides evidence of the number of parameters that are monitored to ensure successful patient outcomes.

Patient setup

How does the patient get the video equipment?

Patients who aren’t in our area (NW England) receive their equipment by post – the packaging is designed to fit through a letter box. We call the patient to make sure they can set it up, and then we talk them through our processes. Some patients take to it straight away and others need additional support. Almost everyone can use PAMAN.

Service setup

What information do you need?

We need to understand all about your product, so we can train our Monitors. When a patient is taken on, we need to know what other medication they are taking, and any known information about interactions with your product.

All our Monitors are registered pharmacy technicians, supported by clinical pharmacists. At the start of a new project, we require them to demonstrate a knowledge of the disease area you are treating. We will provide any training that is needed and will work with you to agree the content. We work to SOPs and our calls to patients are recorded. We constantly review the performance of our team to make sure they are clinically competent, but also that they are able to engage with the patients.

Bespoke service delivery

Can this be delivered at the scale I need and put in place quickly?

We have a pool of over 50 technicians who work as Monitors on a sessional basis. Each Monitor can support 8 patients an hour and we have more applicants than we currently have places for.

Our core service involves regular video contact with patients, but how we use that contact varies according to the needs of our clients. Every service that is commissioned from us is bespoke and we work with you to agree details, required outcomes, and KPIs. Some services we are providing involve daily and ongoing contact with patients. Others are fixed-term support or on-line training.

Feedback

Mary Cooper, daughter (main carer) of patient

“The calls are really helping, she’s taking her meds and insulin on calls means she has not missed a dose or taken them twice.. blood sugars better than they were before she started with PAMAN and she feels better, plus enjoys a little chat”

Feedback

Paul, a patient

“I was a bit sporadic with my meds, either not enough or too much, and a couple of times in A&E when I’d taken too many. I’d highly recommend the service. It’s enabled me to take my medication at the right time, both morning and night. I feel so much better, I’ve really felt the benefit.”
